Success is the sweetest when you achieve something many think is unachievable.

Tonight's Kids to Love is an achievement that will inspire you... from a beautiful young lady who has inspired me and she’s one of the reasons I do what I do.

In the sea of graduates Thursday night at Drake State Technical College, there were many success stories.  One of the biggest...

nats: "brooklynn williams."  “The crowd screams”

The short walk across the stage was a long journey in the making.

Brooklynn shares"High school was rough, not really knowing if you were going to go into foster care.  Graduating high school, that was a success.  Most people in foster care don't do that."

I first met Brooklynn 5 years ago the summer after she graduated high school.

The first year she received a Kids to Love scholarship.

In the last 5 years there have been a change of schools, a change of major... but never a change in the determination to be a success.

"Every year in college I received a Kids to Love scholarship and that helped tremendously." Brooklynn said.

A scholarship provided an opportunity to a young lady who was focused and determined.

"Have to believe in yourself; have to take it day by day.  Don't let anyone get in your way, because the thing things that your parents do is not your fault.  Strive in yourself, believe in yourself, and reach for your dreams." Brooklynn said

And on this night, surrounded by family whose common bond is love, Brooklynn celebrates success.

"This is a licensed practical nurse, LPN, 2 year program for nursing" Brooklynn shares

Brooklynn may continue her education; she may go back and get her RN certificate.

By the way, in the past 8 years, Kids to Love Foundation has awarded 353 college scholarships to local youth in foster care.  Click here to learn more about our efforts to help local kids in foster care.
