HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Downtown Rescue Mission still needs donated, new Christmas toys for its upcoming children’s party.
The toys are needed ASAP, no later than Thursday morning (Dec. 18) for children ages 9-12 years old. The Mission is short 200 toys for both boys and girls within this age range (400 total). Please bring the toys to the Mission’s main campus, located at 1400 Evangel Drive.
Staff members and volunteers are assembling the Christmas toy bags today and have run out to this age range with many more bags left to complete.
The Downtown Rescue Mission will distribute the toy bags to eligible children at the annual Christmas Children’s Party at the Downtown Rescue Mission on Saturday, December 20 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Children will sit with volunteers and enjoy a puppet show, color Christmas pictures, have pizza and cookies, meet Santa and his elves, watch a special guest perform magic tricks and hear a presentation of the Gospel and, at the end of the event, receive their bag of toys. The volunteers will also help carry each child’s bag of toys to their parents’ vehicle.
Families came to the Downtown Rescue Mission in November to sign up their children.
“Each year there are a wide range of circumstances that bring these families to us for help and we are thankful to be able to minister to their needs,” said Heather Lindsay, Director of Family Ministries. “We are so amazingly blessed to be able to be the hands and feet of Jesus to these kids. There is nothing more rewarding than to see the smiles on the faces of children who might not otherwise receive gifts this year. This is what the Christmas season is all about.”
