Huntsville Police investigating two shootings, say one stemmed from bullying at school

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Police are investigating two shootings that injured multiple people on Monday night.

Huntsville police were called to the area of Evans Avenue around 9 p.m. and also to Ortega Circle, just blocks away.

HPD spokesman Lt. Michael Johnson said the Ortega Road shooting actually happened on Blue Haven Road and stemmed from a situation relating to school bullying.

According to Johnson, the 36-year-old victim believed his child was being bullied at school by the shooter's child. The victim went to the shooter's house in the 5100-block of Ortega Circle to confront him about the issue. Officers were called to the dispute.

Johnson stated the shooter and a second man went to the victim's home in the 4600-block of Blue Haven Road where a second confrontation took place. The shooter shot the victim once in the arm and went back to his house on Ortega Circle.  The shooter went back to his house on Ortega Circle where officers found him. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Johnson said a different confrontation led to the shooting on Evans Avenue.

According to Johnson, a woman and three men drove a silver GMC SUV to a house in the 2200-block of Evans Avenue to confront one of the victims. During the confrontation in the street, one of the men shot a handgun at two victims and they drove west towards Pulaski Pike. The victims, ages 18 and 21, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the SUV was recovered in Limestone County.

We don't yet know if the shootings are related.
