Birmingham woman accused of starving and beating her daughters

Belinda Ann McCormick, 35(Jefferson County Sheriff Dpt)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama woman is being accused of starving and physically abusing her 13 and 11-year-old daughters.

Al.com reports 35-year-old Belinda Ann McCormick was indicted Monday on aggravated child abuse charges.

Birmingham Police spokesman Sgt. Johnny Williams says McCormick was arrested in November. She was at a hearing for someone else when an officer saw the children and was alarmed by their appearance.

Williams says the children were physically injured and malnourished and were hospitalized for 10 days.

The indictment says McCormick punched her older daughter in the face resulting in two black eyes. She also beat both children with extension cords, refused to feed them and locked them in a closet.

A court date hasn’t been set for McCormick. It’s unclear whether she has an attorney.
