24-year-old Markeith Williams and 27-year-old Jonathan Hill(JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF OFFICE)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Two Alabama police officers are accused of sexually abusing a woman at a Birmingham nightclub.

News outlets report Fairfield police officers Markeith Williams and Jonathan Hill were arrested Saturday on first-degree sexual abuse charges. Birmingham police Sgt. Johnny Williams says they are accused of assaulting a club employee while she was in the bathroom. An off-duty officer working at the club was alerted to the assault and detained the men. Williams attempted to flee and was shocked with a stun gun.

The officers have been with the department for several months. Williams resigned from the Birmingham Police Department in 2017 while under investigation. Hill was fired by Bessemer police. The reports didn’t describe the reasons for their departures.

They’ve posted bail and been released. It’s unclear if they have lawyers.
