MADISON COUNTY, Ala. - Police say a well-known Madison County man was killed while walking along Capshaw Road Friday afternoon.
Alabama Law Enforcement officials confirmed Edward Golladay, 54, was hit and killed by a pickup truck around 12:15 p.m.
Friends of Golladay's said they're shocked and saddened by the news.
"Today was a pretty tragic day... a day we didn't want to see happen," said Brad Minor, a friend of Golladay's and former youth minister at Monrovia Church of Christ.
Golladay, who officials said was often seen collecting cans along the roadway, was pronounced dead at the scene.
"It was his thing just to go out and get cans. That guy would be out here picking up cans on the coldest day of the year or the hottest day of the year, it didn't matter to him. He just loved doing it," said Minor.
The wreck happened on Capshaw Road just west of Jeff Road.
Alabama State Troopers are investigating.
Minor says he's keeping his thoughts and prayers with Golladay's family and the driver who hit him.
"What happened today was truly an accident because of the wet roads and all of this going on," said Minor.
