VALLEY, Ala. (AP) Police have charged an Alabama man with murder in the shooting death of a motorist who drove into his front yard.

News outlets report 50-year-old Patrick Shannon Templeton of Valley, Alabama, is charged in the killing early Friday of 29-year-old Justin Anthony Meadows.

A police statement says Templeton told officers he was awakened by a loud noise in his yard and went outside to find a vehicle stuck in mud. Templeton’s wife told authorities that Meadows had come to the house looking for their son.

Authorities say an argument led to Meadows hitting Templeton, who then went inside and got a rifle. The younger man died of gunshot wounds.

Templeton is being held in the Chambers County Jail. Court records don’t show whether he has a lawyer.
