Police identify 2 killed in Talladega shootings

TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — Police have released the name of a man that officers shot and killed in Alabama earlier this week, as well as the name of the woman he was accused of killing.

News outlets reported 48-year-old Eugene Benjamin Weathers of Anniston was shot after he opened fire at two Talladega police officers who responded to a report of a possible kidnapping Wednesday.

Investigators later found the body of 24-year-old Brianna Nicole Post of Anniston in the back of Weathers’ car. Investigators don’t know if Weathers and Post knew each other.

Two officers were injured. One was flown to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. The second was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

Both officers are expected to recover. Their names have not been released.
