Cyclist dead after officer involved crash in Muscle Shoals

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. — A Florence man has died Monday evening after he was struck by a Muscle Shoals police officer while riding his bike, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

ALEA reports Bramlett Osteen III, 70, was hit around 3:20 a.m. and taken to Keller Hospital. Later, he was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital where he succumbed to his injury.

Muscle Shoals Chief of Police, Clint Reck confirmed that Sargent Mike West was the officer involved in the crash. West was placed on paid administrative leave while ALEA investigates the crash.

“Today, I would like to offer my condolences and continues prayers to the Bramlett O’Steen Family during their time of mourning the loss of their loved one,” said Chief Reck in a statement. “I also extend those prayers to our officer and his family, as this tragic accident has affected them greatly as well.”

The crash happened on AL 133, north of Avalon Avenue, according to ALEA.
