Child air-lifted to hospital after near drowning incident in east Limestone County
LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. – An 8-year-old child has been flown to the hospital after a near drowning incident at a neighborhood pool in Limestone County.
Authorities say that the boy was found floating in a pool on Summerfield Drive in the Legacy Grove subdivision Wednesday evening.
The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office posted that a married couple spotted the child, who was wearing a mask and snorkel, floating in the pool and they initially thought the child was playing “the dead man game.” They knew something was wrong when the top of the snorkel went under the water. The wife, who is an ER nurse, performed CPR on the boy after they pulled him from the pool.
Authorities confirmed EMTs relieved the nurse and were able to restore his pulse before they took him to Huntsville Hospital in unknown condition.
Deputies say that “it is critical that parents/caretakers pay attention to their children, especially in swimming areas. In today’s incident, it was alert and fast-acting bystanders who (hopefully) saved this child’s life.”
