Jeni Hankins, a talented singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and flat-foot dancer, performed over the weekend at the United Church of Huntsville. The benefit concert raised critical funds for NAMI Huntsville, the Huntsville affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
NAMI Huntsville offers important programs for the mentally ill and for their families, in the form of support groups, speakers, community resources, even lobbying efforts. Funds from the concert will be used to train additional volunteers for programs like "Family to Family," a comprehensive 12-week course for family, caregivers, and friends of individuals living with mental illness.
Also, "In Our Own Voice" is a sixty to ninety minute presentation where people living with mental illness speak about their experiences with the general public. These presentations can easily be requested for your group through NAMI Huntsville.
