ATHENS, Ala. — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a train in Athens Friday night.  The incident happened around 8 p.m. north of Forrest Street, between Jefferson and Clinton Streets.

The 911 center received a call from CSX saying the engineer had notified them the train had struck a person.

According to Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson the victim has been identified.  However, the name will not be released until next of kin is notified.
