The United States Baseball 12U National team - managed by Huntsville High coach David Sharp - defeated Chinese Taipei 7-2 today to win the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan.

A sellout crowd of 11,000 watched the championship game, which started at 7 p.m. Tainan time. Kai Caranto of Santa Clarita (Calif.) was named MVP. He went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, and he pitched two scoreless innings of relief to close out the victory.

The U.S. previously won the event in 2015 and 2013. Sharp was an assistant for the 2015 squad and he was also on the staff last year when the 12U team won silver at the COPABE Pan Am "A" Championships in Puebla, Mexico.
