BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Police are investigating after a man and woman were found dead inside a burning home in Birmingham.

Birmingham police Sgt. Bryan Shelton tells local media that officers and Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday to a house on fire in Birmingham’s Ensley neighborhood.

Firefighters found a male victim inside the home. Shelton says firefighters carried the man outside and then determined he had been shot. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Once the fire was extinguished, authorities found a female victim inside the home. Shelton says she had also been shot and was pronounced dead.

Investigators haven’t yet identified a suspect or motive in the slayings. Shelton says the victims’ names are being withheld pending notification of their families.
