You’ve probably heard an old saying that goes something like “a long journey start with the first step.”

That is a good thing to keep in mind when you start on a journey toward a healthy lifestyle.  It’s “crawl … walk … run.”

Huntsville Hospital Wellness Center Program Director Kevin Ready says people don’t need to overthink it. They just need to take the first step.

“We get a lot of people who are like think I'm not going to set foot in the gym until I already lose the weight and really that is the backwards approach because it just delays their progress.

Jerry Hayes and I have been hitting the workouts hard since last August. We’re lifting or hitting the treadmill at the Huntsville Hospital Wellness Center.  It’s a low key environment with highly qualified personnel ready to help you take the first step.

“What we like to do here is we give people options where they can work out in more secluded places where if other people looking at them is an issue, we take them to aerobics room or into a quieter place.

If you are hesitant to work out in a Huntsville Hospital Wellness Center because of why you think you look, there is something you should consider.

“In our minds we think other people are looking at me. And they are thinking I’m really out shape. But in reality they find that people are very encouraging and supportive of anyone that is in here trying to get healthier.”

The beauty of the Huntsville Hospital Wellness Center is that it is a multiuse and approach setting for health. Along with the treadmills, weights, and trainers, there are nutritionists, yoga instructors, and group exercise class.

Kevin Ready says “We're designed that when people join … we're going to set you up with a plan. We're going to teach you how to work the machines, what is going to work best for them. And then after, we're available for questions. It’s not a "here is a piece of paper and we'll see's a personal training session. We want to make sure you are comfortable, effective, and safe with their program.”
