Shooting suspect turns himself in to Athens police

ATHENS, Ala. – Athens police confirm that Kevaun Turner is now in custody in connection to a shooting that occurred last week on Brownsferry St.

Police said that Turner turned himself in Monday and has been charged with 1st degree assault and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling.

Authorities also say Turner was arrested on a warrant in connection to a shooting that occurred on July 2nd on Acorn Hill Circle.

The victim in that case told officers he was in an argument with Turner about a gun that had been seized in a drug raid on July 1st.

Police say the victim told them that during the argument, Turner pulled out a handgun and shot him in the leg.

Officers said the victim claimed he was able to run away and was picked up by a friend and taken to the emergency room.

Turner has been charged with 2nd degree assault in connection to the incident in July.

Turner is currently being held in the Limestone County Jail.
