COLLINSVILLE, Ala. — Collinsville Police arrested a husband and wife after they admitted to stealing a woman’s pocketbook in a parking lot.

According to the press release, a report was made to police Saturday by a female customer, who stated that she had left her pocketbook and a large sum of cash in her shopping cart after she had loaded her groceries into her car. After the customer realized that she had left her pocketbook in the shopping cart, she returned to the parking lot to find the pocketbook was gone.

Deputy Chief Rex Leath stated that the Piggy Wiggly surveillance system captured the incident on camera. He later located the vehicle the subjects were in at a residence. A juvenile at the residence stated that the subjects were not at home.

Cristina Valasquez Mejia and Julio Alcon Simon turned themselves in Sunday morning. They returned $3,600 and admitted to burning credit cards along with personal identification.
