SHERIFF: Investigating two deaths in Lawrence County

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. – Officials with the sheriff’s office in Lawrence County have confirmed that they are investigating the deaths of an elderly couple found dead at their home off of County Road 209 in the Speake community.

Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell says the the names of the victim’s are not being released at this time, due to not being able to contact next of kin.

The cause of death for either victim has not been determined at this time.

Investigators are working closely with the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to help answer some of their questions.

Sheriff Mitchell said that the couple was discovered dead after they had failed to pick up medication from their pharmacy.

He said that a representative from the pharmacy went to the residence to drop off the medication and discovered the victims.

The investigation is ongoing, but at this time it is being handled as a possible homicide investigation.

An examination of the victims is planned for Friday morning.
