HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Shields Road is now open just shy of the 90 days scheduled for construction. Crews were working on the Norfolk Southern Bridge. That’s the stretch of road between Highway 72 and Jordan Road.

Crews were working to excavate the material adjacent to the bridge. Before the city annexed the area, previous contractors used material that wasn’t strong enough to support the road.

The City of Huntsville tells WHNT News 19 it’s happy that crews were able to stay on schedule, and within the budget. In fact, they finished ten days early.

The asphalt is still curing. The city said permanent striping will take place in two weeks.
