COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. - The Alabama Department of Public Health confirms it is investigating a potential food-borne illness. Dr. Karen Landers says the department believes the food came from a private event in Colbert County over the weekend.

Dr. Landers stresses this is not an ongoing outbreak.

Health officials say 40 people showed signs of illness with diarrhea and vomiting. Six of those people were admitted to hospitals for treatment.

Dr. Landers will not speculate what caused the potential food-borne illness. Officials with the Department of Public Health have sent specimens to the state labs for examination.
