HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Huntsville School Board welcomed a new president, vice president and two newly-elected school board members. Despite any differences they may have had while campaigning, there's one thing they say they can all agree on...communication between the board and parents.

"We need to work as a team, I'm not sure that offer is available, I hope it is," said District 5 seat, Pam Hill.  "I will always vote for the children, I will always vote for the student and I will always be transparent."

"Listen to the voice of the people," said District 1 seat, Michelle Watkins. "The taxpayers fund our schools, the parents come to us with concerns and that's what we need to do. We need to listen."

Newly elected president, Elisa Ferrell says along with communication and working together, they have one more hurdle ahead of them.

"I think our biggest challenge is finding the right leader for the school system," said Ferrell. "Finding a Superintendent that's going to be attentive to the needs of at-risk students as well as our high-performing students."

The five-person board of education will attend a whole board training session in December, something they hope will build relationships between each other and make for a stronger, more united team.
