Troopers identify person killed in crash on Keel Mountain Road

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. - Multiple agencies responded to a crash Wednesday on Keel Mountain Road in Gurley.

Alabama State Troopers said one person died in the crash, which happened about 1 p.m.

Troopers have identified the deceased as Charles Burgess Jr. of Athens.

Troopers say the driver was badly burned when the vehicle caught fire after leaving the roadway and striking an embankment.

Authorities closed Keel Mountain Road in both directions for several hours as they worked to clear the scene.
