Police discover SC sex offender living with minors in Decatur
DECATUR, Ala. – An investigation into a convicted sex offender uncovered a number of additional criminal acts, including failing to inform authorities that he is now living in Decatur.
Jeremy Wayne Moon was arrested Wednesday for failing to register as a sex offender with local law enforcement.
Moon was convicted in 2011 of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the second degree while in Anderson, South Carolina. Police say the child was a female less than 12-years-old.
Wednesday, Decatur detectives charged him with two additional counts of adult sex offender residence restrictions.
Detectives later discovered Moon was living in Decatur without notice to local law enforcement and that there were multiple juveniles also at the residence.
The investigation also revealed he was staying within 2000 feet of multiple daycares and a foster home.
Moon was booked in the Decatur City Jail and transferred to Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $7,500 bond.
