HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - After being closed for about four and a half hours, Highway 72 eastbound near Shields Road is open again and traffic is back to normal after a wreck early Monday morning.

Huntsville Police are investigating the wreck that killed one woman and injured a man.

Police say Ashley White, 30, died.  She lived in Gurley.

Emergency crews responded to Highway 72 eastbound, just east of Shields Road around 2 a.m.  It appears the car White was riding in left the roadway and struck a utility pole.  White died at the scene as a result of her injuries, and the driver of the car suffered minor injuries.

A nearby transformer blew following the collision.  Sparks hit the car which was leaking gas causing the vehicle to catch fire.

Police say the accident is still under investigation and the driver has not been charged at this time.
