HARTSELLE, Ala. - Crews from several volunteer fire departments are on the scene of a house fire that destroyed a home in Hartselle.

The fire started around 2 a.m. on 900 block of Rock Spring Road.

People on the scene told WHNT News 19's Jeff Gray that homeowners noticed their power was out and got up to investigate.

That's when they found out their home was on fire.  The homeowners and their adult son were able to get out of the home without suffering serious injuries.

Unfortunately, the family dog died in the fire.

The American Red Cross is assisting the victims of the house fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
