Sheriff’s Office: Man in custody after search on Scottsboro Highway

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. –A man is in custody after a search in Marshall County.

Deputies were searching for an armed man in a wooded area in the 3200 block of Scottsboro Highway Wednesday afternoon.

The search followed a call where an armed man was trying to force a former girlfriend from her home.

Jonathan Dowling Watson, 43, of Skipperville, Alabama was arrested this evening after a citizen spotted him at Waterfront Grocery on Alabama Highway 79.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office received a call that Watson went to a home located at 3131 Scottsboro Highway and was reportedly armed with a handgun and wearing body armor and attempting to force his ex girlfriend to leave with him. As deputies arrived, Watson ran from the scene.

During the ground search, body armor was recovered. No firearm has been located at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office Aviation unit was on scene assisting with the ground search.

Watson is now in the Marshall County Jail and is being charged with Burglary and Attempted Kidnapping.
