SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – Nelson Elementary students raised more than $22,000 this year through their PTO fundraising project.  Students were asked to raise at least $10 to donate to back to their school.  With the help of sponsors, they exceeded this year’s goal of $18,000.

The money raised allows teachers to request grants to fund different items they may need in the classroom.  These grants have provided new iPads, Mac computers, and new books for the students.  PTO sponsored a fun day for the kids and parents today to thank them for all of their efforts.

“Today, this is is their reward,” said Amber Herrinton, a PTO member. “They hit their goal, and they’re able to enjoy in their class time the bouncy houses.   The PTO provides an icee for every student in the school. It’s just a great event.”

All of the money raised is solely used for the advancement of students at Nelson Elementary.
