Police investigation of a false robbery report and gunshot leads to a drug charge

DECATUR, Ala. – Decatur police are investigating an incident that led to a gun being shot in the parking lot of PetSmart, located in the Target Shopping Center.

Authorities received a 911 call about a robbery and during the call, a single gunshot was fired.

Police arrived at the scene and met with the alleged robbery victim, Tristan Hunter Couch, who claimed that he met an individual the parking lot for the purpose of purchasing a cat.

Police say that initially, Couch claimed that the individual grabbed his gun in an attempt to steal it and a fight ensued.

The Violent Crimes Unit was called to the scene and began an investigation into the incident.  During the investigation, police determined that Couch was meeting the individual in the parking lot in order to exchange money and a quantity of narcotics.

Authorities discovered that Couch was in possession of a large quantity of Xanax that had been packaged for sale.

Couch was arrested for possession of a controlled substance as well as false reporting to law enforcement.

Tristan Couch is currently in the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $3,000 aggregate bond.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges could be forthcoming.
