MADISON, AL-  Madison City Councilman D.J. Klein and Madison businessman Louis Breland presented a $5,000 check to the Madison Police Department Friday morning. The funds will be used to purchase 34  kevlar vests for Madison Police.

Breland made the donation saying he just wanted to show some appreciation to the men and women in blue. “It’s just an opportunity to say thank you to the police for their hard work.”

Currently, the department does not provide vests to their officers. This donation would change that. Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong calls it a great step towards more safety for officers answering calls. “When the information reveals there’s a higher threat, now they can protect themselves and return home to their families,” said Strong.

Corporal Chris Townsend says he is so thankful to Councilman Klein, Mr. Breland and the entire community.

“Our community is amazing, Madison residents and business owners are phenomenal and the support here is wonderful,” said Townsend.
