Toddler identified in apparent accidental shooting in Colbert County

COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. – Colbert County Sheriff Frank Williamson confirmed a young child was shot and later died on Thursday.

The shooting happened at a home in the 1500 block of Highway 157 near Sockwell Lane in Leighton, southeast of Muscle Shoals.

Emergency responders said the child was transported to Helen Keller Hospital, where the child died.

Authorities have identified the victim as 2-year-old Robert Michael Reaves, who is the son of the Spring Valley Fire Chief.

Sheriff Williamson says that the boy was home with his mother and other children when he accidentally shot himself.

The Colbert County Sheriff’s Office¬†is not releasing any more information as deputies conduct their investigation.

Loved ones started a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses.

Visitation will be Sunday from 12-5 at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia and the funeral will be Monday, July 18 at 11:00 a.m.
