Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson

HOOVER — Madison Academy’s Kerryon Johnson had a major impact at Auburn as a freshman last season, but Tigers coach Gus Malzahn expects even more this fall.

Johnson, who was injured through much of 2015 and underwent off-season shoulder surgery, rushed for 208 yards on 52 carries, with three TDs. He has added 15 to 20 pounds to his frame in the off-season.

“Kerryon Johnson has got a chance to be one of the most versatile guys in our league,” Malzahn said at SEC Media Days Monday afternoon. “I think his best days are to come. You’re talking about a guy … we threw him the ball out of the backfield, he did some Wildcat stuff

“From a play-calling standpoint, he gives us a lot of flexibility because he does a lot of things well. He’s going to have a big role for us this year.”

Johnson has been joined on campus by another former Madison Academy running back Malik Miller, which Malzahn said is indicative of his vow years ago to heavily recruit the state of Alabama.
