SCOTTSBORO, Ala. -- Some how, some way, some one managed to leave a surfboard behind at an airport, and now it and multiple other unique summer activity items are up for sale at Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro.

Despite the pouring rain outside Tuesday, the brightly lit kaleidoscopic contradiction of the most normal and interesting forgotten things gleam inside Unclaimed Baggage Center.

The phrase, "you never know what you might find" holds true as dozens of patrons thumb, glance, and muse over the plethora of items inside the center. With a constant cacophony of rustling bags and cheery exchanges in the background, the center bursts with items that prompt a smile - or an eye squint - as the shopper mulls how on God's green earth some of those things ended up there.

"We just really don't ever know what we're going to find," says Brand Ambassador Brenda Cantrell, "We never know what's going to come in,  the weird and wacky."

Adding to that list of things that just make you wonder is a surfboard - not one, but several.

That's not all of the summer activity gear the center gets. "Wet suits, sometimes we get scuba gear, surf boards, paddle boards," Cantrell explains, "Earlier this season, we had an inflatable kayak."

They've seen several boogie boards, and a really interesting item -- a packed parachute. "What a crazy thing to get. We've only had a couple of those in our 46-year-history," Cantrell said.

We went back to the fact that the center has had more than just one packed parachute. Cantrell affirmed that with a laugh. "Yes!"

You can imagine how it's that unpredictability that is what makes the center so interestingly unique; where one can buy clothes, shoes, electronics, or if you like, a surfboard.

In case you were wondering, most of the summer activity gear is up for sale. The packed parachute, however, is not. It will most likely go up for display.
