GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say two people were killed and three others injured when a boat crashed into a pier in south Alabama.

Al.com reports that the collision happened Saturday night near Oyster Bay in Baldwin County.

Alabama State Trooper Jamie Maloy said a 2007 Sea Hunt 220 struck the pier while entering Oyster Bay.

Maloy said the vessel’s operator, 22-year-old Robert Lance Criswell of Jackson; and a passenger, 28-year-old Samuel Jacob Hawk of Thomasville, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other boat passengers were taken to a hospital. Their conditions weren’t available.

Maloy said no one on board was using a personal flotation device.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Division is investigating.
