BOAZ, Ala. – The date is set. After much debate over the job status of the current superintendent, the public should have some answers tonight.

There is a special board meeting called by the Boaz City School System today, June 2, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be at the system’s central office.

While there is nothing specified on the agenda, we expect to learn more about Boaz Schools Superintendent Mark Isley. Two weeks ago, Isley told WHNT News 19 his job status was “up in the air” even though he has three years left on his contract. He said he was informed the board plans to buy out his contract. The Board of Education President responded to those claims saying Isley still held the position, but could not comment on the alleged move to buy out his contract.

Isley’s employment status did not come up for discussion during the May board meeting. And, until Wednesday afternoon, the June board meeting had not been set.

Parents and students have contacted WHNT News 19 multiple times saying they want Isley to stay in his current position as superintendent. But, at this point, that decision is up to the board of education.

WHNT News 19 will continue to follow this developing story. We will update you as soon as we learn more from tonight’s meeting.
