HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Huntsville Police Department Major Crimes Investigators have upgraded the charges against a man accused of killing his own daughter.

Lionel Francis was originally charged with attempted murder in the shooting of 20-month-old Alexandria Francis. Police say Alexandria was shot after a domestic argument between Francis and the child’s mother around 6:30 Friday night.

The child was taken to a hospital in Birmingham where she died Saturday afternoon from her injuries. Police upgraded the charge to capital murder late Saturday.

Investigators say Francis intentionally shot the child, then went outside and waited on officers to arrive.
