HUNTSVILLE, Ala, (WHNT) – On Friday, Huntsville Police begin a Click It or Ticket campaign for Memorial Day weekend.

The department recently received a $6,000 grant for the program through the Northeast Alabama Traffic Safety Office. The money will help cover overtime costs as officers conduct saturation patrols at various times and locations throughout the city.

The overall goal of Click It or Ticket is to remind everyone to wear a seatbelt and to bring awareness to dangerous driving habits.

Alabama law says all front seat passengers, regardless of age, and all rear seat passengers under the age of 16 are to properly wear a seatbelt when traveling on the roadway. Additionally, all children under the age of 6 are to be in an appropriate federally approved child safety restraint system.

Remember that passengers failing to wear seatbelts can be ticketed instead of the driver.
