UNA Returns From Denver With A National Championship

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) - The North Alabama softball team had an extra carry on with them on the flight back to Alabama from the Division II Women's College World Series.  The Lions leaving Denver with some hardware and the title of national champions. The team arrived in Florence around 5:30 pm Sunday evening, welcomed by a sea of fans in purple and gold.

After losing to Humboldt State in game one of the championship series, the Lions defeated the Lumberjacks twice to claim the title.  "They've shown that all year long, our backs have been against the wall. We just continue to fight, continue to just be us. That's what we've been saying all year long, just be us,"  Head Coach Ashely Cozart Said.  "We're goofy, we're funny, we have great personalities were laid back. When were more uptight we don't play as well and so we just came out a little more lose and just excited and just had more of a fight mindset."
