Ala. Supreme Court denies former UAH professor’s appeal of murder conviction
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Alabama Supreme Court has denied the appeal of a former UAH professor convicted of murdering his wife.
A jury convicted Andrew Pakhomov in the strangulation death of his wife in 2009.
The 49-year-old was sentenced to 45 years in prison for killing his wife, Yelena Zakin.
The once-physics professor dumped Zakin’s body in the Tennessee River after murdering her.
The jury determined Pakhomov killed his wife when she wrecked his office after discovering him with another woman.
Pakhomov is up for parole consideration in 2024.
