Limestone Co. judge dismisses assault charge against former Madison police officer

ATHENS, Ala. – A Limestone County judge has dismissed a misdemeanor assault charge against former Madison police officer Eric Parker.

Judge Douglas Patterson granted the Attorney General’s motion filed yesterday to dismiss the charge.  Read the judge’s order. 

Parker was tried twice in federal court for the February 2015 takedown of Sureshbhai Patel on a Madison sidewalk.  Both proceedings ending in mistrials. The judge acquitted him of an excessive force charge.

Parker still faces a civil lawsuit over the incident.
