ARAB, Ala. - Some Marshall County teens really have the quite the honor to boast about, and they need the community's support in getting there.

Arab High School senior Grant Lackey has been performing for most of his life. He's part of Arab Musical Theatre, and took center stage in the group's recent production of Zombie Prom. "It's my last production in high school," Lackey said.

But, there's a once in a lifetime chance Grant and his peers have and it's quite the honor. "We were accepted to perform at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska, which is a huge thing for high school theatre, to be actually able to perform your show there," Lackey explained.

A group of judges with the festival graded the group's production. Five high schools in the nation are selected to perform on the featured stage at the festival.

Arab Musical Theatre is one them, and the only one from Alabama to be chosen.

Much of the costs are taken care of, but they need support. "We're about $11,000 short for the charter bus," Lackey said.

The group has fundraisers, has an online donation site, and will present a sendoff performance of Zombie Prom before the festival. It's all to get that much-needed money to make it there.

"It's a huge opportunity for us, and we're really blessed and thankful to our contributors and the support from the community that we have," Lackey said.

The sendoff performance of Zombie Prom will be June 17 at 7 p.m. at Arab High School. The proceeds will go toward the remaining funds for the trip. You can buy tickets online.
