ARAB, Ala. -- Progress Rail Services' expansion into Arab means dozens of new jobs and city leaders say the company's move is a step in the right direction for the city's future.

Progress Rail Services recently announced an expansion to a site in Arab. The move means plenty of new jobs and opportunities for the area. "That's opened the door for more manufacturing and we hope that we can piggy back on that and add some more manufacturing to supplement their process too," Mayor Bob Joslin says.

The company is bringing new and stable jobs to the area -- an example set for other companies.

The city is working on improving infrastructure, it has land for sale, and it's constantly working to recruit new growth. All together, Arab is building a platform for growth that Progress Rail will help facilitate. "Our roads, for example, we have 110 miles of paved roads in the city limits. When we finish paving what we're doing this month we'll have roughly 75 miles of those repaved, and that's something that hasn't been accomplished in the last eight years," Joslin explains, "So in order to attract those people we have to improve our infrastructure."

It's a goal the city is and has been working toward, and with this new company's announcement, it's moving forward. "We're really happy to have Progress Rail come to our town because they're headquartered over in the Boaz, Albertville area already and they're a big corporation that has maybe 8,000 employees worldwide, so we feel like that's a big win to have them locate in the city of Arab," Joslin says.

City officials say they're hoping to see Progress Rail open in the next few months.
