5 killed in Smoky Mountain helicopter tour crash

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. – Five people are dead after a sight-seeing helicopter tour crashed in Sevier County Monday, according to Tennessee EMA spokesman Dean Flener.

A Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman says the Bell 206 sightseeing helicopter crash was reported at 3:30 p.m. Monday near Sevierville.

The owner of Smoky Mountain Helicopters told WVLT five people people died in the crash. The group was on a sight-seeing ride as part of a popular tourist activity.

There’s no word yet on what caused the crash.
