HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-Huntsville Utilities is warning customers of a new round of scam attempts.

Scam callers are claiming to be employees of Huntsville Utilities.  They are threatening customers with disconnection of service if the victim does not immediately pay over the phone with a pre-paid debit card bought at a nearby store.  Callers often ask the customer to call a toll-free number to make the payment.

Some of the scam phone numbers appear to be local.  In many cases the call appears to come from Huntsville Utilities’ main phone number.  However, each scam attempt asks customers to call another number, either an out-of-state or toll-free number to make payment.

Huntsville Utilities urges customers to always ask for specific information from anyone claiming to be with the company.  Ask for the caller’s name and company contact information.  You can also verify account status with Huntsville Utilities by calling 256-535-1200.  You can also report any suspicious contact at the same number. Huntsville Utilities does not threaten customers with immediate disconnection of service over the telephone.
