Will This Fly? Your chance to launch your start-up with local pitch competition
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT)– Some say when it comes to entrepreneurship, Huntsville has some work to do. But the sky’s the limit.
“We have a lot of room to grow, and this is an ecosystem that if we grow it, we could support thousands of jobs,” explained Antonio Montoya, CEO of Rocket Hatch.
Rocket Hatch supports entrepreneurs in north Alabama. They’re also hosting the second ever Will This Fly pitch competition on May 7 at Campus 805. Their last one was in 2014. Rocket Hatch has posted a gallery of photos from it.
Montoya says if you want to get your startup off the ground, this competition is for you.
“People that attended the competition in 2014 got investment afterwards,” he said. “And that’s what we’re trying to create.”
He said the event will be back for a second time, revamped and improved. Over the past two years, they’ve made a new set of connections to get even more investors’ interest in companies looking for a big break.
“We’re connected with 50 states, so we have connections across all the United States,” he said. “We now have a much broader network… it’s going to be much more competitive.”
There’s also an added twist. Montoya said those startups chosen to pitch will now get online mentoring to improve their pitches and prepare them for that process, truly aiding in the launch of their ideas.
Daniel Fox is one of the hopefuls, wanting to be a part of the process. He pre-applied.
“Getting off the ground and in the Southeast in a year. That could be the difference it makes for us [if we win,]” he said.
Fox and his partner run Go Getter, LLC.
“It’s an online platform that aims to change the way college students network, trade, and communicate on their campuses,” he explained.
