FRANKLIN COUNTY, AL-   According to online court records, a pretrial hearing is scheduled for Scotty Lee Keeton this morning at 8:30 a.m.

Investigators say Keeton beat his mother, 62-year-old Sharon, to death in November of last year. The investigation found Sharon died from blunt force trauma to the head.

This case took an unusual turn last month when court records show Keeton filed a letter with the court, saying he wants to plead guilty to premeditated murder.
He also wrote: “I would like capital punishment and the death penalty.” He also described using a shovel to beat his mother.

The state filed for a mental evaluation.

His trial is set for April 4th.
