NEW YORK – The board of directors of the Wounded Warrior Project has fired the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operating Officer, CBS News reported.

In what is a followup to a CBS News investigation into how the charity spends the millions of dollars it receives in donations each year, Wounded Warrior Project’s CEO, Steven Nardizzi, and COO, Al Giordano, were fired. More than 40 employees criticized the organization about how it spends its more than $800 million raised in donations in the past four years.

The board reached its decision Thursday afternoon after receiving preliminary results of a financial and policy audit, CBS News reported. The news organization said there are indications that investigation will continue.
