GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. — Some Marshall County residents will have a new polling location next election.

Wednesday morning the Marshall County Commission discussed moving a polling place located on Community House Road to a different location. “We passed a resolution moving the voting place from Sims Community House to the Pleasant Grove Volunteer Department,” Commission Chairman James Hutcheson says.

Hutcheson says the new location is easier to access, where the old location was met with some concerns.

After voting, several residents voiced some concerns about that polling location to WHNT News 19 and the County Commission. Some of those were lack of parking and handicapped accessibility. “This has a lot more room for parking, it’s a paved parking lot, it’s handicapped accessible and it will just be a lot better place for the handicapped and everyone to vote at.”

Next election, the Commission plans to have a deputy at the old polling location to ensure residents make it to the right location.

The move is effective immediately. Residents who vote at the new location will receive notification of the change in the upcoming weeks.
