9 Seattle firefighters injured in building explosion

SEATTLE, Wash.– A building exploded around 1:40 (PST) Wednesday morning sending nine firefighters to the hospital.

According to WHNT News 19 sister station Q13 Fox News, there was a natural gas leak in the area before the explosion.

One resident tweeted about windows being blown out of buildings for nearly a block:

The Seattle Fire Department is continually updating the latest information on Twitter. They have more than 50 employees in the area including firefighters, command staff and medics.

A Q13 photographer was on the scene when the building exploded. He described the aftermath of the explosion as a war zone and said glass was raining down. Fortunately,he is OK.

There is no word on the severity of injuries the firefighters suffered.
