Hollywood K-9 officer to receive bullet, stab protective vest
HOLLYWOOD, Ala. – Hollywood Police Department’s K9 officer, Fox, will receive a protective vest thanks to the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
Delivery of the bullet and stab protective vest is expected within eight to ten weeks.
Vested Interest’s mission is to provide the vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies thoughtout the United States.
The Hollywood Police Department calls K9 Fox is a “dual-purpose narcotics/patrol K9” who has been a member of the Hollywood Police Department for about 15 months. He is certified through North American Police Work Dog Association.
Prior to becoming a member of the Hollywood Police Department K9 for was deployed to the war in Afghanistan where he spent 3 years protecting and defending our military and civilian workers.
K9 Fox’s vest is sponsored by Dartmouth Dental, MA “Helping Paws for Canines” holiday fundraiser and will be embroidered with the sentiment “This gift of protection provided by Dartmouth Dental”. Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.
Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 1,700 protective vests, in 49 states, through private and corporate donations, at a cost of over 1.6 million dollars. All vests are custom made in the USA by Armor Express in Central Lake, MI.
The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $1,050.00. Each vest has a value between $1,795 – $2,234 and a five-year warranty, and an average weight of 4-5 lbs. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.
