One dead after shooting outside Fairfield church

FAIRFIELD, Ala. (WHNT)- According to our news partners at an investigation is underway after a deadly shooting in Fairfield.

Fairfield police Chief Leon Davis said the 23-year-old victim was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. He was shot twice in the chest, Davis said.

The shooting happened about 8 p.m. on 58th Street. Nearby Miles College was put on lockdown as a precaution, but authorities say no students were involved in the shooting and there was never any danger to the campus.

Fairfield police are now searching for the shooter. He fled the scene in a gold or brownish Nissan Maxima with chrome around the fenders.
